StemCell.biz — frequently asked questions

Is StemCell.biz a medical provider?+

No. StemCell.biz is an educational website and a network of independent providers; we don't treat patients. Only a licensed clinician who has evaluated you can say whether any treatment is appropriate for you.

Are stem cell treatments FDA-approved?+

Mostly not. In the U.S. the only FDA-approved stem-cell products are cord-blood-derived hematopoietic progenitor cell products used for certain blood and immune disorders. Most stem cell, umbilical cord and exosome treatments offered by clinics for joints, pain, aging or other conditions are not FDA-approved.

Are exosomes stem cells, and are they approved?+

No on both counts. Exosomes are tiny particles released by cells, not cells themselves, and no exosome product is FDA-approved; the FDA has publicly warned consumers about unapproved exosome products.

How do I check whether a stem cell clinic is legitimate?+

Verify four things: the product's FDA status, whether any 'study' is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov, that the treating clinician is licensed with your state medical board, and that you receive a written informed-consent document explaining risks and alternatives. Walk away from cure-all claims, requests to pay to join a 'trial', or pressure to travel for treatment.

What is the difference between PRP, BMAC and stem cell injections?+

They are different preparations. PRP is concentrated platelets from your own blood, BMAC is a concentrate of your own bone marrow, and 'stem cell' injections may refer to fat-derived, donor umbilical cord or lab-expanded cells. Each has different evidence, risks and FDA status, so ask exactly what is being injected.

Is holistic or alternative regenerative medicine safer?+

Not automatically. A 'holistic' or 'alternative' label doesn't change a product's FDA status or risks; the same questions about the product, the clinician's license and informed consent apply.

How do providers join the network and receive referrals?+

Providers create a free account to list their practice, or reserve their ZIP code exclusively for $1,500 a month so that patients in that ZIP who ask for help are connected to them.
